Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform high speed printing by a small capacity power source, by providing a count means for counting the number of the data of pixels developed by selectively supplying a current to the heat generators of a thermal head and a current supply means capable of arbitrarily altering the number of the heat generators to which a current is simultaneously supplied. CONSTITUTION:The image data read in a CPU 11 is converted to the printing data suitable for the printing by a thermal head 1, that is, the current supply (ON data) or current non-supply corresponding to heat generators 24 to be temporarily stored in an RAM 13. Continuously, the number of ON data are counted at every block to be temporarily stored in the RAM 13. The printing data is transmitted to a shift register 21 from an input/output interface 15 through a data line 26. When the transmission of the printing data of one line is finished, the signal of a latch signal line 28 is turned ON and the printing data is taken in a latch 22.
