Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a stainless steel excellent in scratch resistance at a low cost, by subjecting a stainless steel containing specific percentages of Cr, Ti, Zr, and Nb to heat treatment in a nitrogen atmosphere under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A stainless steel containing, by weight, 10W30% Cr and further one or ≥2 kinds among 0.1W3.0% Ti, 0.1W3.0% Zr, and 0.1W3.0% Nb is subjected to heat treatment at 500W1,200°C in an atmosphere of 0.2W1.2atm partial pressure of nitrogen. By this method, one or ≥2 kinds among the nitrides of Ti, Zr, and Nb are compounded with the surface layer, at least at a depth of ≤1μ, of the stainless steel by at least 1W60% by an area ratio measured and evaluated from the surface, and the stainless steel having a hardly scratched surface can be manufactured.
