Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent nozzle clogging and to improve quality of a cast slab by arranging bottom part corresponding to inlet diameter of the nozzle and also conical projection having the prescribed apex angle at end part of the stopper head. CONSTITUTION:The stopper 1 for controlling molten metal flowing in a tundish is arranged to the nozzle 2, and also the conical projection having 30-100 deg. the apex angle at the end part of the stopper is arranged so as to be possible to insert into the nozzle 2. Then, the bottom part of the stopper 1 is made to provide the size and shape, so as to stop the flowing of molten metal by fitting to the nozzle 2. By this method, the end part of the stopper 1 by the conical projection into the nozzle 2 prevents the sharp enlargement of the flowing passage of the molten metal. Therefore, the growth of stuck material of Al2O3, etc., in the inner face of the nozzle 2 is eliminated and the nozzle clogging is perfectly prevented. Further, as dropping of the stuck material is eliminated the quality of the cast slab is improved.
