Abstract

PURPOSE:To set a focus area optionally by providing a means which sets the focus area at an optional position and fetching an image signal outputted from an image pickup element into a memory. CONSTITUTION:A data bus 15 transfers input/output data to and from a microcomputer (MCP) 5 and a RAM 16 is connected detachably to this bus 15. Further, when a write command is supplied from the MCP 5 to a RAM controller 12, digital image data sent out of an A/D converter 14 to the bus 15 is fetched in the RAM 16. Then the focus area is set at the optional position by operating a focus area setting button 18. Further, the image signal obtained by the CCD image pickup element 8 is digitized by the converter 14 and stored in respective addresses of the RAM 16. Data in addresses corresponding to the set focus area among stored image data is fetched and used to perform focus control.
