Abstract

CONSTITUTION:When a start key is pushed down, an illumination lamp 12 is turned on. And an optical system 12 is driven to proceed by an optical driving motor M2 in order to detect an automatic exposure mode or the size of an original and it is driven to recede after detection. When an automatic variable magnification is selected, the size of the original is detected and the magnification is decided from the size of the original and the size of copying paper in a cassette. When an automatic paper selection mode is selected, it is detected whether the size of the original coincides with the size of the copying paper in the cassette. And only when it is detected that copying is possible, a main motor M1 drives to rotate the photosensitive drum 1 so as to execute copying. Since an image carrier is not driven when the size of the original and that of the copying paper are noncoincident, the number of rotation of the image carrier is reduced and the life thereof can be prolonged.
