Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high resolution images possessing bright peripheries by forming diffraction gratings on the periphery of a screen and diffracting incident light in the direction of user's eyes. CONSTITUTION:A pair of diffraction gratings 4 are provided on the entire upper area 2a and its symmetrical entire lower area 2b of the screen main body 2. The grooves of each diffraction grating 4 are straightly marked at the same intervals, whereby they are formed as rectangular grooves 3a in rectangular cross-sectional shape. Therefore incident light is diffracted downwardly on the upper part 2a, whereas it is diffracted upwardly on the lower part 2b. It is finally diffracted in the direction of user's eyes. Thus much of surrounding light, which has escaped outside, is converged, whereby bright images not only in the central part but also on the periphery of the transmission type screen 1 can be observed. Besides, the groove pitch of the grating can be made fine to improve resolution, as well.
