Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the relative displacement of both high- and low-speed rocker from occurring by making cam lift curves of a low speed cam and a high speed cam accord with each other at least the first half of the specified period at an interval ranging from time after lifting starting of the low speed cam to time getting to the maximum lifting.
CONSTITUTION: Low speed cams 4a, 4b and a high speed cam 5 for a suction valve are formed in a camshaft at each cylinder, and low-speed rocker arms 9 and 10 are made contact with these low speed cams 4a and 4b and a high- speed rocker arm 11 with the high-speed cam 5, respectively. And, in these rocker arms 9W11, there are provided with hydraulic actuation selector devices 15 which engage or disengage these arms ad select on-off operational characteristics of the suction valve 1. In this case, each cam lift curve of these cams 4a, 4g and 5 is formed so as to be accorded with each other or extremely approximated at least the first half of the specified period at an interval ranging from time after lift starting of these low speed cams 4a and 4b to time getting to the maximum lift.
