Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound for a variety of intermediates by forming a pyridyl Grignard reagent from a pyridine derivative and a Grignard reagent, and allowing the reagent with a variety of heterocyclic group-containing sulfoxide to effect coupling of the pyridyl group with the heterocyclic group.
CONSTITUTION: 2-, 3-, or 4-Pyridyl Grignard reagent is obtained by allowing 2-, 3-, 4-iodopyridine with a Grignard reagent of the formula: RMgX (R is alkyl, alkenyl; X is halogen) and then allowed to react with a heterocyclic group- containing sulfoxide of the formula (R1 is 2-, 3-, or 4-pyridyl which may be substituted, 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-. 6-, 7-, or 8-quinoline which may be substituted; R2 is alkyl) to give bipyridines which may substituted, pyridylquinolines which may be substituted by pyridylisoquinolines which may be substituted. These products are used an intermediate of medicines and agrochemicals.
