Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a highly water-absorptive resin composition prevented from undergoing a phenomenon of forming unwetted lump of flour when it is brought into contact with water, body fluids; etc., and improved in a speed of absorption, an absorptivity, a strength of swollen gel, etc., by mixing a highly water-absorptive resin with a polyvinyl alcohol resin and a boron compound. CONSTITUTION:The purpose highly water-absorptive resin composition is pre pared by mixing a highly water-absorptive resin (A) (e.g., partially neutralized polyacrylic acid) with a polyvinyl alcohol resin (B) (e.g., highly saponified polyvi nyl alcohol) and a boron compound (C) (e.g., boric acid or borax). The mixing ratio is suitably such that the rate of component B to component A is 0.05-5wt.% and the rate of component C to component B is 0.01-5wt.%. The obtained highly water-absorptive resin composition is particularly useful as an absorbent for body fluids, such as a sanitary article or a hygienic article, and can be used in other water-retaining agents, coating agents for seeds, etc.
