That is, the shape or the pattern of the paper sheets P is checked by the inspection means 7 based on a carrying speed of the carrying means 3 detected by the carrying speed of the carrying means 3 corresponding to the sampling signal SS outputted from the sampling signal generating means 6. Thereby, no difference in the inspection result due to change in the carrying speed of paper sheets is caused.
