Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a synthetic polymer composition stabilized against deterioration by action of heat and light for a long period, by blending a synthetic polymer with a specific amount of a specified phosphite compound. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic polymer (e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene) in an amount of 100pts.wt. is blended with 0.001-5pts.wt. phosphite compound expressed by formula I [A is alkylidene (e.g. methylene or ethylidene) or sulfur atom; R is alkyl (e.g. methyl or ethyl); R1 and R2 are H or alkyl; R3 is alkyl, phenyl or alkylphenyl]. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting a dihydric phenol expressed by formula II with a phenol expressed by formula III and phosphorus trichloride.
