Abstract

PURPOSE:To inhibit the tin oxide film from being formed on the surface of steel strip and to produce a tinplate excellent in corrosion resistance and adhesion for paint by heating the steel strip electroplated with tin on the surface in the inert gas atmosphere to melt the plated tin layer and thereafter quenching it in a chromic acid-base soln. CONSTITUTION:After electroplating Sn on the surface of steel strip, it is heated at the temp. not lower than m.p. of Sn to melt Sn and immediately water-cooled and a lustrous tinplate is produced. In this case, tin oxide is formed, and corrosion resistance and adhesion for paint of the tinplate are deteriorated. In order to prevent it, steel strip 1 is plated with Sn in an electroplating tank 2 of Sn and thereafter heated by electrification rolls 4, 4a while supplying AC current and the plated tin layer on the surface of steel strip is melted and thereafter steel strip is passed through a chromic acid-base soln. in a cooling tank 5 and quenched and also a chromate film is formed on the surface. Thereby formation of tin oxide is inhibited and a tinplate excellent in corrosion resistance and adhesion for paint is obtained.
