Abstract

PURPOSE:To extract efficiently a high-quality false arborvitae oil free of metal contamination, by performing steam distillation in an apparatus having a particular coating material applied to the surfaces in contact with steam and false arborvitae oil. CONSTITUTION:Use is made of an apparatus in which a boiler inside 1, an extraction tank 8-10, an adiabatic expansion chamber 14, a cooling pipe 15, etc. to be in contact with steam and false arborvitae oil are coated with a coating material of a heat-resistant resin. In the apparatus, saw dust 12 is put into the extraction tank 8-10, and steam is introduced from the boiler 1. The pressure in the extraction tank 8-10 is controlled by means of a pressure gauge 3 and a solenoid valve 13. The tissue of the saw dust 12 is destroyed by pulsation pressure changes, and thus false arborvitae oil is extracted. The steam contg. the oil is cooled in the adiabatic expansion chamber 14, and further sufficiently cooled in the cooling pipe 15. The extracted oil and water are introduced into a storage vessel 17.
