The present invention relates to a dispersant for pigments for coated paper. More specifically, the present invention relates to a dispersant for coated paper pigments comprising an alkali metal salt of a copolymer of 70-98 mol% acrylic acid and 2-30 mol% styrene sulfonic acid. Coated papers such as art paper and coated paper have traditionally been made of kaolin, clay, calcium carbonate, titanium oxide,
A certain type of dispersant is added to a pigment such as Sachin White and dispersed in water. Synthetic latex, starch, casein, etc. are added as a pigment binder to this, and if necessary, melamine resin, urea resin, glyoxal, polyamide, etc. It is manufactured by adding a waterproofing agent such as formaldehyde resin to prepare a coating solution, applying this solution to base paper, and then drying it. Today, in the production of coated paper, various pigments are mixed and used for the purpose of improving printability, etc. Therefore, it is necessary for dispersants to have a wider range of dispersion ability for various pigments. is necessary. In addition, in order to reduce drying energy after application of a coating liquid, it is desired to prepare a highly concentrated pigment dispersion liquid with a low water content. Furthermore, it is required that the viscosity of the pigment dispersion liquid does not change even when stored for a long time. To meet these demands, alkali metal salts of polyacrylic acid are generally used today;
This was still insufficient. As a result of further investigation into dispersants, the present inventors discovered that the alkali metal salt of a copolymer of acrylic acid and styrene sulfonic acid in a specific ratio was The present invention was completed based on the discovery that the pigment dispersion effect is significantly superior to both metal salts and acrylic metal salts of homopolymers of styrene sulfonic acid. That is, the present invention relates to a dispersant for pigments for coated paper, which is composed of an alkali metal salt of a copolymer of 70 to 98 mol% of acrylic acid and 2 to 30 mol% of styrene sulfonic acid. Examples of the alkali metal salt of the copolymer in the present invention include lithium salts, sodium salts, potassium salts, etc. alone or in mixtures thereof. The copolymer of acrylic acid and styrene sulfonic acid in the present invention can be produced by a conventional polymerization method. For example, a method can be mentioned in which an alkali metal salt of acrylic acid and an alkali metal salt of styrene sulfonic acid are dissolved in water and copolymerized in water in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator such as potassium persulfate. In the present invention, the copolymerization ratio of acrylic acid and styrene sulfonic acid has a very large influence on the pigment dispersion effect of the copolymer, and the amount of styrene sulfonic acid to be copolymerized must be in the range of 2 to 30 mol%. be. In this case, if the amount of styrene sulfonic acid is less than 2 mol %, no substantial improvement in dispersion effect is shown compared to an alkali metal salt of polyacrylic acid.
Moreover, if it exceeds 30 mol %, the initial viscosity during preparation of the pigment dispersion not only increases, but also increases over time, which is not preferable. The alkali metal salt of the copolymer containing styrene sulfonic acid in the range of 2 to 30 mol% has a lower viscosity of the pigment dispersion than the alkali metal salt of the homopolymer of polyacrylic acid and polystyrene sulfonic acid, and The rise in clay caused by this is also small. Moreover, the copolymer of the present invention has 20
When the viscosity of the weight % aqueous solution is 50 cps (25° C.) or less, preferably 5 to 30 cps, it has good dispersion performance. The dispersant of the present invention can provide a pigment dispersion with a lower viscosity with a smaller amount than the commonly used alkali metal salt of polyacrylic acid. Therefore, dispersions with higher concentrations can be prepared and yet exhibit excellent viscosity stability. The dispersant of the present invention can be used alone or in combination with conventionally known dispersants. The present invention will be explained below using reference examples and examples. Reference example 1 [Preparation of dispersant] Sodium acrylate (abbreviated as AA-Na) 84.6
(0.9 mol) and 20.6 g (0.1 mol) of sodium styrene sulfonate (abbreviated as St-Na) were dissolved in ion-exchanged water and incubated at 90-95°C for 5 hours using potassium persulfate as an initiator. Polymerize. concentration 20
A copolymer aqueous solution having a weight percent and a viscosity of 14.5 cps was obtained.
Copolymer composition is essentially sodium acrylate
90 mol%, sodium styrene sulfonate 10 mol%. This is called dispersant A. Similarly, copolymer aqueous solutions or homopolymer aqueous solutions having the compositions shown in Table 1 were prepared using different molar ratios and potassium acrylate (abbreviated as AA-K).

[Table] Example 1 Dispersants (A to I) were dissolved in a predetermined amount of water, and while stirring with a lab mixer, calcium carbonate (Hairoenka PZ; manufactured by Shiroishi Calcium Industries Co., Ltd.) was added and dispersed to form a pigment. A dispersion liquid having a concentration of 60% by weight was prepared. Then, the viscosity at 25°C was measured using a Bruckfield viscometer. The results are shown in Table-2. Note that the amount added in the table is the solid content of the dispersant relative to the pigment. All pigment dispersions using the dispersant of the present invention had low viscosity.
