PURPOSE:To respond to variation of external conditions speedily over a wide range by making a current and a voltage to be applied to a separating electrostatic charger pulsive. CONSTITUTION:When an AC voltage with a peak value V0 and a period T is applied basically to the electrostatic charging wire of the separating electrostatic charger, a pulsating DC component is superposed. It is not sure that this voltage deviates positive or negative, but the DC component is more in case of, for example, 10T. When this kind of image forming device separates a transfer material from an image carrier, the time of separation corona application is much longer than the frequency of the applied voltage, so the number of pulses of the DC component is varied as mentioned above to control the quantity of corona discharging to the transfer material after transfer. Consequently, environmental changes accompanied by characteristic variation of the transfer material, separation condition settings of a both-surface system, etc., are handled speedily to perform excellent separation.
