Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of uneven densities by controlling the value of a toner replenishing bias by the value obtd. by comparing the ratio of the optical density on the surface of a photosensitive body before development and the optical density of the pattern image after formation and development of a test pattern latent image and a reference level and the size of a transfer sheet. CONSTITUTION:The standard pattern for controlling toner replenishment is exposed, separately from the image, on the photosensitive body 21 in the region except the original image region thereof, by which the standard latent image is formed. The standard pattern is detected by a photosensor 28 after the end of the development of respective colors. The bias value of the toner replenishing roller 204 is changed according to the difference between the output of the photosensor 28 and the reference level and the size of the transfer paper at the time, by which the amt. of replenishment is controlled. A good-quality image having no repeat fluctuations is obtd.
