Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to attain excellent coloration and uniformity of a paint film without decreasing its brightness, by adding a microparticulate titanium oxide pigment to a metallic paint. CONSTITUTION:A metallic paint composition comprising a film-forming polymer, a metallic powder pigment, a microparticulate titanium oxide pigment and a dispersing medium. Said microparticulate titanium oxide pigment is a titanium oxide pigment which has a far smaller particle diameter and a higher transparency as than those of a usual titanium oxide pigment widely used in the field of paint etc. This microparticulate titanium oxide pigment has a particle diameter in the range of 0.03-0.10mu, in terms of a major diameter and a specific surface area by a BET method in the range of about 30-120m<2>/g, and particularly desirable one has a major diameter of 0.03-0.06mu, a minor diameter of 0.01-0.02mu and a specific surface area of 80-120m<2>/g.
