Abstract
PURPOSE:To extremely easily produce spheroidal bodies of metals and alloys by packing the powder of the metals or alloys into recesses having the diameter larger than the depth of a jig made of carbon or ceramics and melting the powder in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The many recesses 1 having the diameter larger than the depth of the jig 2 made of the high melting point material such as carbon or ceramics are provided to said jig and the fine powder 3 of the Au alloy, Ag alloy, etc., are packed therein. The surfaces of the recesses are leveled off and flattened by a spatula so that the amts. of the alloy powder packed in the recesses 1 are approximately equaled. Such jig is put into an electric furnace in which an inert gaseous atmosphere such as N2 is maintained, then the jig is heated to the temp. above the m.p. of the packed alloy to melt the alloy powder 3. The molten alloy is spheroidized and solidified by its own surface tension, by which the spheroidal alloy 4 having nearly uniform diameters is obtd. The diameter of the spheroidal bodies 4 is preferably <=1mm. Their own weight of the spherical bodies increases and the flat spheroidal bodies are liable to be formed if the diameter is >=1mm.
