CONSTITUTION: The display tube 4 displays characters, graphics, etc., based upon an instruction from a control part 2 and its luminance is properly controlled by the luminance control part 3 by the operation of a normal control 5. When the luminance setting part 1 is operated, a switch is turned on and a signal is outputted to the controlling part 3. The controlling part 3 generates a command for displaying a picture by previously set luminance different from the luminance controlled by the control 5 and the control part 2 receiving the command reduces the luminance of the tube 4. When the switch is fixed on an operator's chair or the like, the luminance of the display tube 4 is increased only when the operator exists, so that the service life of the tube 4 can be extended.
