Abstract

PURPOSE:To generate artificial patina excellent in film characteristics and adhesive strength and having a wide range of color tone on the surface of a copper material, by carrying out electrolysis by using a copper material as an anode in an electrolyte containing carbonate or bicarbonate and phosphate, silicate, aluminate, etc. CONSTITUTION:Electrolysis is carried out in an electrolyte containing carbonate and/or bicarbonate and also containing one or more kinds among phosphate, silicate, and aluminate by using a copper material as an anode. As the above carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, silicate, and aluminate, about 10-120g/l Na2CO3, about 10-100g/l NaHCO3, about 3-30g/l Na2HPO4, about 3-30g/l Na2SiO3, and about 3-30g/l NaAlO2 are suitably used, respectively. Further, it is preferable to regulate electrolysis conditions so that electrolyte temp., current density, and electrolysis time are about 10-80 deg.C, about 2-50A/dm<2>, and about 0.5-5min, respectively. By this method, an artificial patina film which has a composition composed principally of basic copper carbonate and further containing basic copper phosphate, etc., and has superior characteristics can be formed efficiently on the copper material.
