Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable good observation by forming a straight diffraction grating structure having periodic structures at equal intervals onto a transparent plane substrate, then curving this plane substrate to a curved shape, thereby forming a luminous flux coupling element. CONSTITUTION:Parallel luminous fluxes 6 and parallel luminous fluxes 9 enter a hologram recording material 26 on the transparent substrate 24 respectively at incident angles theta2, theta1 and interfere with each other to generate interference fringes, by which the diffraction grating of a volume phase type is formed. A cutter 19 is combined with a corresponding die and the diffraction grating 26' and the transparent substrate 24' are cut out and are adhered via an adhesive agent layer onto the transparent substrate 18. Further, the transparent substrate 18 is curved to the curved shape or, if the transparent substrate 18 is a resilient stock, the substrate is stuck to the transparent substrate having the curved shape at need, by which the luminous flux coupling element is produced. The brighter display is thereby enabled and the generation of double images is prevented as there is no reflected light from the rear of the substrate. The good observation is thus enabled.
