Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the accuracy of fixed dimension and welding reliability of an end hat by masking the contact part between the end hat and a filament connecting ring from a getter layer by means of a jig and making laser welding on this contact part. CONSTITUTION:An output side end hat 5 is welded by laser on a filament connecting ring 2 fixed to a cathode supporter 1. A getter layer 4 is spread over the surface of the output side end hat 5 and the spread region is defined as an area except a circular portion of a diameter identical to the diameter of the filament connecting ring 2, around the axial center of the cathode supporter 1. A region not covered by this getter layer 4 is subjected to masking by means of an upper jig 10 and a low jig 11 engaged with the former jig. Since the output side end hat 5 and the filament connecting ring 2 are welded together by laser in form of adjacent metallic material surfaces, both welding reliability and accuracy of fixed dimension can be rendered excellent.
