Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a contraceptive agent in high yield, by reacting a hydroxy-estradiol derivative with a benzoic acid derivative in the presence of a triarylphosphine. CONSTITUTION:A 6-hydroxy-17beta-estradiol derivative (e.g. 6-hydroxy-estradiol THP in which the 3,17-positions are protected with tetrahydropyranyl groups) expressed by formula I (R<1> is protecting group) is reacted with a benzoic acid derivative expressed by formula II (X Is OH or halogen; R<2> is lower acyl; n is >=1) in the presence of a triarylphosphine (e.g. triphenylphosphine) to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula III (R<1> is H or OH-protecting group).
