Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for producing various saccharide derivatives in high yield, by reacting deoxy-beta-D-erythro- pentapyranose with an acylating agent in the presence of a reaction promoter. CONSTITUTION:2-Deoxy-beta-D-erythro-pentapyranose shown by formula I is reacted with an acylating agent (preferably acid anhydride) in the presence of preferably 5mol.% reaction promoter at preferably -35--50 deg.C to give the aimed compound shown by formula II (R is acyl). The amount of the acylating agent used is usually 3.1-3.5mol. based on 1mol. compound shown by the formula I.
