Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the erroneous detection of knocking, caused by saturation of a knocking sensor signal, by executing a switching control of amplification rate of an amplifying means, which amplifies the detection signal from a knocking sensor, being based on a value in accordance with the maximum value in a predetermined section of the knocking sensor signal. CONSTITUTION:A knocking signal, detected in a knocking sensor 11, is amplified in an amplifying means 12, which enables its amplification factor to be switched to a number of stages, thereafter fed to a maximum value detecting means 14, here the maximum value of the knocking sensor signal in a predetermined section is detected. Being based on this maximum value, it is decided whether or not the switching of the amplification factor is necessary in an amplification factor switching deciding means 18, and being based on the decision result, the amplification factor of the amplifying means 12 is switched by controlling an amplification factor switching means 13. While supplying the knocking sensor signal to a knocking decision means 15 to be compared with a knocking decision level, thus deciding knocking for whether it exists or not, a driving means 16, to which the decision output of the means 15 is supplied, controls an internal combustion engine 17 in its ignition timing, fuel injection amount, etc.
