Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size and weight of an angular speed detecting part by connecting the angular speed detecting part and control circuit by a long-sized optical cable.
CONSTITUTION: The control circuit 41 is constituted of main circuits including a light source 26, an optical distributor/coupler 28, a photoelectric conversion circuit 36 and a synchronous detection circuit 38, etc. The angular speed detecting part 42 is constituted of main circuits including a polarizer 29, the optical distributor/coupler 31, an optical fiber coil 32 for angular speed detection, and a phase modulator 35, etc. The circuit 41 and the detecting part 42 are connected by the long-sized optical cable 43. The coupler 28 and the polarizer 29 are connected by the optical fiber 44 in the cable 43. A modulation signal for driving a modulator 35 is further generated in a signal transmitter 45 in the circuit 41 and after the signal is converted by the photoelectric conversion circuit 46 to the intensity change of light, said light is transmitted by the optical fiber 47 in the cable 43 to the detecting part 42. This light is again converted by the photoelectric conversion circuit 48 to the electric signal which is impressed to the modulator 35. The size and weight of the detecting part 42 are reduced by connecting the circuit 41 and the detecting part 42 by the cable 43 in such a manner.
