Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a safe skin cosmetic, containing glutathione peroxidase as an active ingredient or further glutathione as a hydrogen donor therefor, having decomposition activity in addition to inhibitory effects on formation of peroxylipids and capable of relieving inflammations. CONSTITUTION:A skin cosmetic, containing glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) which is an enzyme, present in the liver, heart, lung and blood of mammals, containing selenium and having 75,000-100,000mol.wt. as an active ingredient or further glutathione (GSH; present in living bodies and having diversified function, such as detoxifying poisons.xenobiotics, protection of SH groups in proteins or role as storage and transportation type of cysteine) as a hydrogen donor therefor in combination, capable of relieving peroxylipid-derived inflammatory reaction of the skin and effective in improving or protecting skin condition. The amounts of the blended ingredients are preferably about 0.001-0.1wt.% GSH-Px and about 0.01-1wt.% GSH.
