Abstract

PURPOSE:To record a program so as to obtain the best S/N for a tape residual quantity and to improve a picture quality by recording a desired program exactly for the tape residual quantity. CONSTITUTION:By comparing desired FG frequencies read out from a memory with the actual FG frequencies obtained from a frequency generator 68, adding a control voltage corresponding to the error frequencies to the control voltage read out from the memory, and controlling a capstan motor 66, a magnetic tape 20 can be stably scanned at a prescribed speed. Consequently, the desired program can be recorded exactly for the tape residual quantity. At the time of reproduction, when the magnetic tape 20 is scanned at the same speed with that of the recording, a reproduction control signal CTL has the same frequencies with those of a reference signal REF, and in such a time, the FG frequencies become the described frequencies same as the FG frequencies at the time of the recording, therefore, the original program can be reproduced. Thus, since the tape quantity used per unit time becomes larger, the S/N of the reproduced picture is raised and the picture quality can be improved.
