Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber of high orientation, useful as a precursor for producing high-performance carbon fibers, etc., and having excellent mechanical strength, by spinning a high-molecular weight acrylonitrile based polymer by a specific method and drawing the resultant fiber at a high draw ratio. CONSTITUTION:An acrylonitrile based polymer, containing >=80wt.% acrylonitrile and having >=500,000 weight-average molecular weight is initially dissolved in a spinning solvent consisting essentially of DMF or dimethylacetamide so as to provide 5-15wt.% concentration and afford a spinning solution having 500-1,500cP viscosity at 45 deg.C. The resultant spinning solution is then spun by a dry jet-wet spinning method and then coagulated in a coagulation bath at <=0 deg.C. The obtained coagulated yarn is subsequently drawn at >=10 times to afford the aimed fiber having >=95% X-ray orientation degree and <=0.8 X-ray crystallinity parameter.
