PURPOSE:To prevent a clock pulse from being waved on account of that the potential of a substrate is varied by a read pulse during the detection of a signal charge, and to avoid a fixed pattern noise by reading out the signal charge from a light receiving element to a prescribed packet during a horizontal blanking period. CONSTITUTION:In the solid-state image pickup device of what is called a self scanning system constituted so that a vertical transferring part 12 consisting of a charge coupled device is divided into plural packets consisting of plural and the same number of gate electrode parts, and the signal charge obtained at the light receiving element 11, of every one or two light receiving elements 11, is read out and transferred in the prescribed packet among these plural packets, the read-out of the signal charge from the light receiving element 11 to the prescribed packet is performed during the horizontal blanking period. Thus, the fixed pattern noise caused by supplying the read out pulse during a horizontal effective period, can be avoided.
