Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a deodorizing sheet capable of adsorbing ammonia, etc., under high humidity by forming the sheet of active carbon and a fibrous material wherein at least a part of its external fiber layer is constituted of a hydrophilic crosslinked polymer and a residual part of an acrylonitrile type polymer. CONSTITUTION:A deodorizing fiber material comprising at least a part of its external fiber layer constituted of hydrophilic, water-insoluble hydrogel and the residual part constituted of AN type polymer and/or another polymer, having 0.1-5.0mol./g COOH group is obtd. by allowing aq. soln. of alkali metal hydroxide contg. >=6.0mol. hydroxide in 1,000g soln. to react with acrylonitrile type fiber (PAN fiber), or by another means. A deodorizing sheet is produced from said fiber material and active carbon by a dry or wet process for producing nonwoven fiber or by a paper making process, etc. Said deodorizing sheet has satisfactory mechanical strength and also adsorptivity to ammonia, amine, etc.
