Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out perfect joining with the relatively little upset quantity by carrying a large amount of current to a butt part while restraining only both edges of plate width of sheet steels except on a butt weld line of an object to be welded and its vicinity in the plate width direction and applying the upset thereto to join in the sheet steels. CONSTITUTION:In order not to disturb a main current path, high strength heat resistant insulators such as ceramics, for instance, are used at the abutment side with the sheet steels 2 as restraining jigs 3 to be used and the electric insulations is carried out thereon. Then, while restraining only both the edges of the plate width except parts of length (l) respectively right and left with the butt part of the plate width end faces of the steel sheets 2 as a center in the direction of the plate width, butt welding is performed. By this method, while preventing the rotational heat deformation of the sheet steels 2 due to the local thermal expansion of the butt part, the sufficient deformation is given to a joining part and an oxide can be eliminated to the outside of the joining part and the metallic structure can be refined.
