Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the durability of the electrochromic (EC) element by driving the EC element in triangular wave mode to a specific current value, driving the element with a constant current next to a specific voltage value, and then driving the element with the constant voltage. CONSTITUTION:A stabilized power source 15 for driving the EC element 3 consists of a power supply source 16, a power source gradual increasing and decreasing circuit 17, a voltage stabilizing circuit 18, a current stabilizing circuit 19, and a changeover switch 20. Then the EC element 3 is driven in triangular wave mode to the specific current value, driven with the constant current to the specific voltage value, and then driven with the constant voltage. Namely, the voltage is applied in triangular wave mode at the start of coloration to eliminate the flow of a peak current to the EC element 3, driven with the constant current next to color the peripheral part and center part of the EC element 3 uniformly in a short time, and further driving with the constant voltage to obtain a stable coloring state on the entire EC element.
