Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title filler small in loss of transparency when added to a silicone rubber and low in hardness increase hardness, by controlling the pore volume of pores having specified pore diameters among pores of a hydrated silicic acid. CONSTITUTION:An alkali silicate (e.g., sodium silicate) is mixed with an Na2SO4 solution and ion-exchanged water and agitated and the pH of the mixture is adjusted to 2.0-2.5 by adding thereto sulfuric acid when the viscosity of single particle diameter viscosity is maximum. The mixture is filtered to obtain a hydrated silicic acid. This hydrated silic acid is washed with water until its salt content (SO3) is reduced to 0.1% or below, dried, ground and classified to obtain a filler for silicone rubber, comprising hydrated silicic acid having volume of pores of a pore radius of 50-10,000Angstrom of 3-4cc/g, volume of pores of a pore radius of 50-400Angstrom of 1-2cc/g and a volume of pores of a pore radius of 150-200Angstrom of >=0.45cc/g. A silicone rubber is filled with 25-45wt.%, based on this silicone rubber, said filler.
