Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thixotropic agent for paint, excellent in shelf stability, nondepositing on the surface of a paint film and excellent in water resistance, by mixing an organic amide wax with a diisocyanate/monoamine mixture at a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:This thixotropic agent is a mixture of 100pts.wt. organic amide wax which is a reaction product of a diamine with a fatty acid and 5-100pts. wt. diisocyanate/monoamine mixture in which the equivalent ratio of the diisocyanate to the monoamine is 1/2-2/1. As said amide wax, an organic amide wax prepared by reacting hexamethylenediamine with stearic acid is preferable. As said monoamine, n-butylamine is particularly desirable. When the equivalent ratio of the diisocyanate to the monoamine is below 1/2, the viscosity of the paint is excessively high, and when it is larger than 2/1, the water resistance and weathering resistance of a paint film are lowered.
