Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily produce filter membranes having fine through-holes and having excellent fluid permeability, heat resistance, and chemical resistance with good productivity by applying a combination of two surface treating techniques, namely electrolytic etching and anodization, to high-purity aluminum foils. CONSTITUTION:Electrolytic etching is applied to one side of a foil 1 of aluminum having >=99.9% purity, and many etching pits 2 almost reaching the other side are formed. The other side of the etched foil is then anodized in a sulfuric acid bath, etc., and a porous anodically oxidized film 3 having a barrier layer 4 is formed. The foil is then dipped in an aq. soln. contg. sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid to remove the barrier layer 4, and the micropores 5 of the film 3 are opened to the etching pits 2. A filter membrane wherein an aluminum foil is laminated on the anodic oxide film as the backup material is obtained in this way.
