Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent turning in black which might cause deterioration of light flux and shortened life of lamp, by constituting a discharge electrode from semiconductor porcelain, and by covering certain portions of its surface with a conductive high melting point substance. CONSTITUTION:The opening of a tubing 1 of a discharge lamp device P is blocked with a cathode electrode part 2, and that surface of a columnar discharge part 2a arranged within the tubing which faces the inside of the tubing is covered with a film 3. The film 3 consists of a conductive substance with high melting point, which shall be either of TiN, ZrN, TiC. The cathode electrode part 2 is made for ex. of semiconductor porcelain of barium titanate type, and it is hard to generate chemical change due to heat, that prevents it from turning into black with high efficiency. The melting point of TiN as one of the high melting point substances is approx. 3500 deg.C, and it is hard for sputtering to occur. This constitution prevents perfectly the walls inside the tubing from turning into black.
