Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a pressure-sensitive adhesive paper which exhibits adhesiveness in sticking and can be easily released without damaging the paper and the quality of the print by immersing in water when it must be released after being stuck, by applying a water-soluble substance between a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and a paper layer. CONSTITUTION:In the production of, e.g., a postage stamp, a revenue stamp or a seal, a water-soluble substance 2 such as PVA or starch is applied to either surface of a paper base 1 and dried, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive 3 such as an acrylic, rubber or vinyl acetate adhesive is applied to it. The obtained pressure-sensitive adhesive paper having the release layer can exhibit adhesiveness in sticking, and when it must be released after being stuck, it is immersed in water, whereupon the water-soluble substance 2 between the paper 1 and the pressure-sensitive 3 is dissolved to release it easily. Because the coated surface of the water-soluble substance layer is smoother than the surface of paper, the coating weight of the pressure-sensitive adhesive can be reduced, and the drying load in the application of the pressure-sensitive adhesive can be reduced.
