Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a block copolyester, consisting of a polyester capable of exhibiting thermotropic liquid crystallinity and polyester without exhibiting the above-mentioned crystallinity and having improved toughness and excellent heat resistance, flame retardance, mechanical characteristics and molt moldability. CONSTITUTION:A block copolyester obtained by blending (A) polyester blocks, consisting essentially of units expressed by formulas I-III at substantially equal molar ratios of the respective units expressed by formulas I and II and 5/95-95/5 units expressed by formulas I to III and capable of exhibiting thermotropic liquid crystallinity with (B) polyester blocks, consisting essentially of units expressed by formula IV without exhibiting thermotropic liquid crystallinity alone at 25/75-95/5 weight ratio of the components (A) to (B) so as to provide >=0.5 intrinsic viscosity. In the formulas, Ar<1> is trifunctional aromatic group; Ar<2>, Ar<3> and Ar<4> are bifunctional aromatic group; R is 2-4C alkylene or bifunctional aromatic group.
