CONSTITUTION:The objective liquid crystal composition containing an azo compound of formula I {R' is H, (alkoxy- or aryl-substituted)alkyl, (alkoxy- or aryl-substituted)alkoxy, (alkyl-substituted)cyclohexyl, or -COOR<3> [R<3> is (alkoxy-substituted)alkyl, (alkyl-substituted)cyclohexyl, or (alkoxy- or alkyl- substituted)aryl]; R<2> is of formula II or III [R<4> and R<5> are each (alkoxy- or aryl-substituted)alkyl or may form ring by linking each other]; formula IV and V are each (alkyl-, alkoxy- or halogen-substituted)1,4-phenylene, etc.; n is 1 or 2}.
