Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to set a wait time so as to evade malfunction and to detect toner emptiness early by comparing a last leveling output regarding a toner sensor output with a current value and by deciding the toner emptiness when a result which indicates a predetermined direction is obtained as many times as specified. CONSTITUTION:When developer toner concentration becomes lower than a desired limit value, the output obtained by leveling the output of a toner sensor 37 exceeds a predetermined desired value, so an operating means supplies toner from a hopper 12 to a developing unit 36. In this state, the current leveling output is compared with the last one after another and when the same specific result (e.g. that the current leveling value is equal to or larger than the last one) is obtained as many times as specified, a deciding means decides toner emptiness. Correct decision making operation is performed according to what comparison result is obtained. Consequently, the wait time for evading erroneous detection after power-on operation need not be set and the toner emptiness can be detected early.
