Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent embrittlement due to diffusion of Zn and to attain an increase in service life and an improvement in productivity, by constituting a die for extruding a Zn-containing Al alloy by using a steel stock having a specific composition consisting of Cr, Si, C, Mo, V, W and Fe. CONSTITUTION:A die for extruding a Zn-containing Al alloy is formed of a steel stock having a composition which consists of 4.5-20% Cr, 0.80-3.0% Si, 0.32-0.42% C, 1.00-1.50% Mo, 0.20-1.20% V, 1.00-1.50% W, and the balance essentially Fe and in which at least either of the above Cr and Si is incorporated in ranges of 6-20% and >1.2-3.0%, respectively. By providing the above composition to the die steel stock, the embrittlement of the above die due to the diffusion of Zn can be prevented and the service life of the die can be increased. By this method, productivity is improved and the thickness of the die is reduced, by which cost reduction and improvement in the yield of die manufacture can be attained.
