Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the operability without any damage in extraction and afterward handling, and further the forming process of a clad layer by putting a substrate in one mold member, and injecting and molding transparent resin in a cavity formed of the surface of the substrate and the surface of the other mold member. CONSTITUTION:While the substrate 6 is put in the recessed part 2a of the bottom mold member 2, the exposed surface part (upper surface side) of the substrate 6 functions as the clad part of an optical waveguide to be manufactured, so desired transparency and a desired refractive index are obtained. Then while the substrate 6 is put in the recessed part 2a of the bottom mold member 2, the molds are closed to form the space (cavity) where fused resin is injected between the internal surface of the recessed part 4a of the top mold member 4 and the substrate 6, and the fused resin is injected into the cavity and caked. Then the molds are opened and the unit is taken out. A core part 8 is formed in a desired shape on the surface of the substrate 6 and has a larger refractive index than the surface part of the substrate 6. Consequently, the operability is improved without any damage in the extraction and afterward handling, and further the forming process of the clad layer 10.
