Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the best coupling efficiency between the light emitting element and a fiber by monitoring the light emission output of the light emitting element through the converging lens and fiber and mounting the converging lens on the light emitting element where the monitored value is maximum. CONSTITUTION:The light emitting element 1 set on a heat sink 5 is set on a stem 6 and an adhesive is dripped on the light emitting element 1 by a proper amount; and the converging lens 2 is sucked to a capillary 4 by a VAC pump 10 and put close almost until it contacts the light emitting element 1, thereby sticking the adhesive. In this state, when the light emitting element 1 is electrified to illuminate, its light emission output is detected by the photosensor 12 of a monitor part 7 through the converging lens 2 and fiber 3 and the quantity of light which is detected is monitored on the power meter 13 of the monitor part 7. At this time, the capillary 4 or stem 6 is moved, the positions of the light emitting element 1 and converging lens 2 are adjusted so as to obtain the maximum value of the monitored power, and the adhesive is heated and cured to fix the converging lens 2 to the light emitting element 1. Consequently, the best coupling efficiency between the converging lens and optical fiber is obtained.
