Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the manipulatability of a paper feed device for a printing apparatus by the operator, by providing a mechanism for selecting one of stoppers in accordance with the kind of sheets, and setting the same at a predetermined position. CONSTITUTION:An automatic paper feed mechanism is composed of a general sheet stopper 1, a general sheet stopper drive motor 2, a general sheet detecting sensor 3, a post card stopper 4, a post card stopper drive motor 5, a post card detecting sensor 6, a sheet hopper 7, a paper feed roller 8 and a switch panel 9. The operator depresses a switch on the switch panel, corresponding to the kind of sheets to be set. A signal from this switch is read through an i/o port 10, and is subjected to computation by a CPU 11 so as to select a sheet stopper and the stopper is located at a predetermined position by means of one of the drive motors.
