Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a rubber composition which is suitable for socket cover, because of its excellent tensile strength and heat resistance after vulcanization in the presence of oxygen, by adding an organic peroxide, as a crosslinking agent, to an ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated polyene copolymer rubber. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100pts.wt. of an ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated polyene terpolymer rubber in which the molar ratio of ethylene/propylene is 86/14-97/3, the total of propylene and the nonconjugated polyene 6-20mol.%, and A is not less than 0.1 in the equation (P is the propylene content in the rubber, D is the nonconjugated polyene content, and E is the ethylene content), are combined with (B) 0-150pts.wt. of a process oil, (C) 40-400pts.wt. of an inorganic filler and/or carbon black, and (D) an organic peroxide. The polyene compound is preferably 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene or dicyclopentadiene in an amount of 3-8mol.%.
