Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the coefficient of friction to a magnetic head by specifying the roughness of the surface of a magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:With respect to the roughness of the surface of the magnetic disk, an average roughness on the center line is set in a range of 80-110Angstrom , and a ratio Ra/Rmax of the roughness Ra to a maximum height Rmax is set in a range of 1/10-1/15. For example, a substrate consisting of an Al-Mg alloy is chemically plated with an Ni-P alloy and a polishing liquid or tape is used to polish the surface and a Cr foundation layer, a magnetic layer consisting of an Ni-Cr-Co ternary alloy, and a protective and lubricating layer are successively laminated, thereby forming this disk. Thus, the coefficient to friction is reduced without rusing a liquid lubricant neither hindering low floating of the magnetic head.
