Abstract
PURPOSE: To assure discoloration resistance, to form extremely nonmagnetic products, to prevent erroneous meter reading by a meter reading machine and to make meter reading operation perfect by subjecting a button formed by using metals, exclusive of ferromagnetic metals, and synthetic resins as a blank to a surface prepration, then subjecting this button to tin-cobalt alloy plating in the case the button is subjected to plating. CONSTITUTION: A pretreatment is necessary in order to apply the electroplating on a non-electric conductor, such as button 1. The pretreatment forms a chemical copper plating layer 2 after a customarily used etching stage, sensitizer stage and activator stage. The outer side of this layer is subjected to bright surface finishing by an electric copper plating layer 3. Next, this electric copper plating layer 3 is subjected to the plating of a tin-cobalt alloy at about 0.2 to 5.0 micron plating thickness by adjusting the quantity of electricity and plating time, by which a white nonmagnetic metallic surface is formed. In such a case, the alloy component deposited on the plating layer is preferably 75 to 98% and 85 to 90% in tin component.
