Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the rigidity of an optical box by providing an opening part on the dust-proof cover of the optical box and projecting a light beam from the opening part. CONSTITUTION:An optical system which requires high relative position accuracy, e.g. a rotary polygon mirror device 3, an image forming lens system 6, and a reflection mirror 11 are fitted to the optical box 7. The cover 12, on the other, is provided with the opening part 13 and window glass 14. Then a light beam 2 which is scanned by the mirror 3 passes through the lens system 6 and mirror 11, and further the glass 14 and opening 13 to form an electrostatic image on a photosensitive body 10. In this constitution, the rigidity of the optical box 7 never decreases, so the relative position relation of the optical components is held high.
