PURPOSE:To maintain quality of a product and to stabilize the operation by supplying carboneceous solid reduction material to a vertical type smelting reduction furnace separately from the upper and the lower step tuyeres and controlling temp. and composition of molten metal by adjusting the distributing ratio. CONSTITUTION:The carbonic material is supplied into the vertical type smelting reduction furnace 1 from a carbonic material supplying hole 16 at upper part and high temp. oxygen-contained gas is blown to the upper step tuyere 6 and the lower step tuyere 7 from piping 9 for supplying oxygen-contained gas through a distributor 8, to form a carbonic material fluidized layer 2 and a carbonic material packed layer 3. On the other hand, powdery ore is supplied together with oxygen-contained gas from the upper step tuyere 6 through an ore supplying pipe 14, to execute reduction. Dust containing many carbon in exhaust gas is collected with a dust collector 10 for high temp. arranging to a duct 15 and distributed with a dust distributor 11 and supplied respectively into the upper and lower step tuyeres 6, 7. By this constitution, by adjusting the carbonic material quantity supplying from the lower step tuyere 7 with the distributor 11 in accordance with temp. of the produced molten metal 5, the temp. and/or composition of the molten metal 5 is controlled.
